Test Magazine: PopCorn

I created this magazine cover to test my layout and design skills when it came to magazine covers. We had to create a magazine cover that was based around a music genre of our choice, so I chose pop music. I decided to create a magazine aimed at young women, with a colour scheme that used traditionally and stereotypically feminine colours of pink with the more neutral white, but overall maintaing a soft, pleasant, pastel colour scheme. The fonts used were all san serif and rounded, to maintain a fun and casual aesthetic that harder fonts would have been detrimental to. The masthead makes use of rounded font as well as displaying the two core colours of the colour scheme within, with "Pop" written in pink and "corn" written in white, in order to highlight the play on words in the title, as the magazine is about pop music, and popcorn is an addictive food that many people enjoy and can't get enough of. I used glitter on Kesha's name as it is something that is related to her image, and also highlights and brings attention to it as it is the core subject of the magazine, this is also why it is written in such large font. Kesha is also the central image of the magazine, and I drew doodle style images of a crown and a regal cloak in order to add a playful, fun aspect to the design of the magazine. The fact that these were doodles was emphasised by the pen photoshopped through the first "o" in "Popcorn".
